Password Strength Checker

Check password characteristics in your browser. We do not have a Practical PC security-how-to cluster yet, so the advice here stays general: unique passwords, length, and a manager if you want one.

Your password is checked in your browser and is not sent to our server. It is not stored, logged, or put in the page address.

Type a password to see a local strength estimate. Leave the field empty to clear it.

How this tool works

Scoring runs entirely in JavaScript on your device: length, character variety, simple sequences, and a short local list of common passwords. Nothing is posted to /api or appended to the URL.

For broader Windows privacy topics, browse the Security & privacy category. Dedicated password-manager how-tos are not published on Practical PC yet.

Important limitations

This is not a full breach database and not an entropy laboratory. It will not detect a password you reused on another site. Do not type your real primary password if you are on a shared screen.

Frequently asked questions

Is a "very strong" result a guarantee?

No. A password can still be reused, phished, or already in a breach. Strength labels describe the typed string, not your whole account security.

Do you send this to analytics?

No. Analytics, if enabled on the site, may record that the tool was opened, never the password text.
