Windows error codes
An error code is a clue, not a complete diagnosis. Each page explains what the code usually means, safe checks, and when hardware or a technician is more likely. You can also use the error code lookup or the BSOD stop code lookup.
- Windows error 0x80070057, A generic "invalid parameter" style error that often appears during Windows Update, backups, or installs, not a single root cause.
- Windows error 0x80070422, Often means a required Windows service is stopped or disabled, commonly Windows Update or related services.
- Windows error 0x80070002, "The system cannot find the file specified", missing update files, a broken installer path, or a deleted temp file.

- Blue screen: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, Windows stopped because a system service or driver hit an exception. Causes range from a bad driver to failing RAM, not one fix.
- Blue screen: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, A process Windows cannot live without exited. Disk corruption, drivers, and failing storage are common themes.
- Blue screen: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, Windows could not read the drive it needs to start, cables, a new disk controller, BitLocker, or a failed drive.
- Blue screen: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, Windows hit a memory error in a region that should always be present. RAM, a driver, or disk corruption can all be involved.
